RUTH FAGERBERG
In Memorium
MEMBER, AFRICAN AMERICAN QUILT CIRCLE OF DURHAM
Ruth was born and raised in the textile capital of Danville, Virginia. Her mother was a seamstress and her father dyed fabric for Danville River Mills. She learned how to sew on her mother’s Singer treadle sewing machine making doll clothes. She was a self-taught quilter influenced by the masters of the art.
Her work was influenced by the quilts of the late 1800s and early 1900s and the new modern interpretations of the quilts of the late 1800s and the early 1900s. Quilting gave her the opportunity to express her imagination, her vision, and her heritage.
Ruth preferred the combined soft muted colors of dawn and the bold colors of summer.
