TEENA CRAWSHAW
MEMBER, AFRICAN AMERICAN QUILT CIRCLE OF DURHAM
Teena Crawshaw lives in Martinsville, VA. She has been quilting for 15 years. Teena started quilting by attending a quilt show by the African American Quilt Circle held at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. She loved the group’s work and decided she had to join this group of dynamic women. Thus, the quilt journey began.
Teena is still learning and exploring this art. She prefers to make wall hangings that have an improvisational feel to them. In this way she can let her mind run as it pleases. Teena likes to use a lot of batik fabrics in her works, as these express her love for bright colors and convey a sense of joy and optimism in the world around her.
Most of her pieces are a result of being challenged to interpret a thought, theme, or emotion.
